1.        Check progress on the animal transformation chart (should have merlin, ant, and owl completed)

2.      Finish the animal transformation chart (goose and badger)

3.      Read and work on Book I questions

4.      Discuss the essay test to be given in class on Friday, Sept. 14th

HW:   

  1. Complete the animal transformation chart and bring it to class on Friday for the essay test.
  2. Read chapters 22-24 and finish the Book I questions by Tuesday, 9/18

IMPORTANT:  I am holding review sessions for the animal transformations during lunch on Wednesday, 9/12 and Thursday, 9/13.  Bring your animal chart, book, and lunch.  You can earn back the points on your lowest reading quiz (up to 5 points) by participating in one of the review sessions.

2.      Review and discuss parts of chapters 20-21

a.       Message about power and “Might is Right” (interaction with the hedgehog)

b.      Parable of Man

c.       Message about man and tyranny

3.      Introduce and begin working on the animal transformation chart

a.       Complete the perch together as an example

b.      Discuss “key lessons” from each transformation (whole class)

c.       Continue working on the chart for the other animals (merlin, ant, owl)

1.      Character development and character relationships

2.      Examples of humor

3.      The animal transformations: type of society, leadership style, pros and cons of each society, and what Arthur learns during each transformation

4.      Consider the deeper meaning of the nature of man in regard to war, boundaries, and power.

5.      Parable of Man in Chapter 21 (know the story and the moral/lesson)

6.      The badger’s message about man, power, and tyranny
